10 years ago, much as I shudder to acknowledge that span, I wrote a poster for the first ever exhibition by writer’s association 26.
The project was Illuminating the Alphabet — a set of 26 posters, each about a letter, and each the result of a random pairing of writer with graphic designer. (There’s more about our X with Thomas Manss in our Portfolio.)
It was a wonderful project, not least because we teamed up with the British Library, who hung the work all over the library, and gave all of us readers’ passes so we could do our research there.
Now, 10 years on, 26 has decided to do an anniversary project. This time, we each get a word, not a letter. And each of the 26 writers is being paired with a letterer from Letter Exchange.

We’re very fortunate, both in my randomly assigned word — undulate — and my partner, Stephen Raw. Stephen has worked with some amazing other partners, including Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy. Follow that, Reed Words.
We’ve been asked to keep a ‘Creative Diary’ of our progress, so naturally enough we launched a new blog.
