Raising £5m - and a new building

Until relatively recently, The Medical Foundation worked out of two rather dilapidated offices in Kentish Town. Hardly the best environment in which to attempt to treat the physical and psychological effects of torture. It was a testament to the Foundation's staff that they managed to do so at all.

It couldn't go on like that, though, so the appeal began to raise £5m for a new, purpose-built treatment centre. Working with designer Piers Rutterford, I created a set of materials branded as 'Under One Roof' to communicate with major donors.

A very simple visual device of a roof-shaped triangle tied the campaign elements together and created a professional, intelligent brand without breaking the bank.

As well as the appeal document itself (top), we put together a lunch invitation, pledge card and menu (below), all featuring relevant twists on the visual theme.

Fundraising, of course, is all about results. The most creative work in the world is worthless unless it brings in the funds. So it's a real pleasure to be able to say that you can go and see the results of this campaign any time you like: the magnificent new building is at 111 Isledon Road, N7.
