1% For The Planet comes to London

May 16 saw the first meeting of the UK membership of 1% For The Planet. And as this country's very first member of this fast-growing movement, I could hardly decline.
It was an inspiring get-together, hosted in London by The Climate Group. Both organisations share a belief that, rather than simply berating business for its many environmental failures, we should be encouraging companies to participate in what's fast becoming the most urgent project on earth. Namely, the earth itself.
1%FTP is going from strength to strength, with around three or four businesses signing up every week. The organisation's been given a huge boost recently by US singer/songwriter Jack Johnson, a 1%FTP member who's promoting the organisation throughout his world tour.
In case you don't know, and can't guess from the name, 1%FTP is an association of businesses, each of which pledges 1% of its sales to environmental causes. The UK membership is still a fledgling one, but it's growing fast.
