Some of you may remember the "X" poster I worked on last year for the exhibition "26 Letters". The success of that project has led to a follow-up for this year's London Design Festival, and once again I'm lucky enough to be involved. This year, writers from 26 (the writers' group) have teamed up with London Underground and students from the London College of Communication (LCC). Together, we've a poster based around each station on the Circle Line. The writers have also contributed a chapter each to an accompanying book, which also includes work by literary luminaries such as the poet Simon Armitage. Ranging from local history to poems and short stories, the chapters offer a suitably diverse set of perspectives on London.
The book is out now, and the exhibition opens on September 15 at the LCC. Both are called "From Here to Here: stories inspired by the Circle Line."
Recent events, of course, have threatened to cast a shadow over anything to do with the Tube. But in celebrating London's diversity - its lights and darks alike - the book now feels like a timely reminder that this is far too rich and multifarious a city to be defined by such blunt and brutish acts of terror.
It's well worth a read, and the exhibition promises to be just as intriguing.
